San Francisco Compost Recycling Law

On October 21st 2009 a new city ordinance in San Francisco took affect that mandated people either compost at home using a compost bin or compost tumbler, separate their compostables out of their trash into a separate recycling bin, or face fines. Fines for individuals start at $100, fines for businesses start at $500.

Will our compost tumbler allow you to compost at home to avoid these fines? YES! And because our tumbler is made for an urban environment it will work well in the city. Regular compost bins or piles are not sealed, and can attract rodents and other undesirable, unsafe, protentially disease carrying wildlife.

Our tumbler is heavy duty solid plastic, fully enclosed, to prevent the attraction of rats, or raccoons, or mice, or anything else.

You'll also benefit from the results of your work, organic fertilizer for your plants or garden.

There is lots of information on this site explaining more about our tumbler, why to compost, how it works, and how to use it. Read along and learn, especially our article on How to Shop for a Compost Tumbler. With a fine staring you in the face, the compost tumbler becomes an affordable alternative. Our tumblers are also made right here in the USA, some in California. So you help the local economy as well.
